Premium car manufacturer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars set a record by selling more than 6,000 car units for the first time in its 118-year history.
Reported by bloomberg.com on Thursday (10/1/2023), Rolls-Royce announced this record sales record due to sales growth from the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, US and European markets during 2022. In total, around 6,021 units of cars were delivered to customers last year, an increase of 8 percent compared to the previous year.
Notably, a "single-digit" sales decline was recorded in Greater China - which includes areas such as Hong Kong due to ongoing headwinds such as Covid-19. However, this can be offset by increased sales in other markets.
The British automaker, which is owned by BMW, does not share its profits and earnings. But the company says the average Rolls-Royce price jumped to $534,000 last year.
"Not only have we revealed the Rolls-Royce Specter, our marque's first all-electric series model to the world, this is also the first year we have delivered more than 6,000 cars in a single 12-month period, with strong demand across our product portfolio," said Rolls' chief executive. -Royce Motor Cars Torsten Muller-Otvos.
Torsten also said that the SUV model, the Cullinan, was the best-selling model last year, contributing nearly 50 percent. The Ghost model accounts for more than 30 percent of sales, while the Phantom accounts for about 10 percent.
Meanwhile, the automaker's biggest launch in 2022 will be the Specter , Rolls-Royce's first electric vehicle with prices starting at US$413,000 or equivalent to 6.4 billion. The electric vehicle had pocketed more than 300 SPK preorders from US customers prior to its official launch last October.
Meanwhile, a large part of this record is thanks to Rolls-Royce's customization program known as Bespoke. "Bespoke is a program that our customers are quite interested in, because our clients' requests are increasingly imaginative and technically demanding. This is a challenge that we embrace enthusiastically," he said.
